We have to stop the troughers and those who are trying to suppress debate.
"thanks to greed, corruption, and the delinquent condition of our schools and
universities, New Zealand is a de facto Apartheid state"
Not to mention the absence of any balanced main sream media.
This just about sums it up.
"We’re back, in effect, in 1840. And the issue, as then, is whether we want
peace and unity, or endless division and perpetual strife. Do we want a
democracy, or do we not?"
In effect things have decayed since 1840.
What we face today is the greatest threat to this country and its people since
the Treaty was signed and yet the troughers still want more of what actually
belongs to the entire country - and the fact is they are a tiny minority. Time
to reign them in.
Indeed, the day when a government threatens to abrogate a formal
treaty agreed to stop a war, is a long way down the slippery slope of
breaking other contracts. Sanctity of contract used to be a common
theme of both Labour and National, but here we have the most extreme
right government, possibly since the Treaty was signed, led by a minor
party politician, threatening to stir up racism and division and then
put just such an explosive proposal to the arbitrary decision of a
non-compulsory referendum. No wonder National bleats that they will
not let it pass a second reading, but Luxon is so under the control of
Seymour that he is not objecting to a six month period of select
Committee so that ACT can keep this fomenting of hatred and division
going for as long as possible.
Some will argue that it is trying to hide failures relating to
inflation, to employment, to numbers without a home, to police
numbers, to health services, to bribery of supporters, to meeting
climate change targets (when we now know that the cost will be higher
than previously anticipated), to law and order (burglaries are up), to
care of the disadvantaged, etc. etc. They are consistent in failing to
meet promises, except their bribes to landlords and other donors, who
are presumably the troughers referred to in the OP.
