Disrespecting parliament should carry severe penalties.
Where I live most local folk believe this behaviour is reprehensible, and at
least 50% of those folk are Maori.
This is not the way of it currently. Maori are allowed to behave in
ways that non-Maori would never contemplate because of the
consequences. Imagine what would happen if ACT MPs got up in
Parliament and danced with verbal aggression right in front of the
Maori Party MPs.
That is exactly what happened - Seymour's verbal aggression over a
considerable period of time was eventually met by a relatively mild
and short remonstration by another political party. This is of course
what Seymour wanted - he will be delighted to have upset Te Pati
Maori, and he hopes that his blatant contempt for acting in accordance
with a binding commitment will get some waverers to support him, if
for no other reason than his upsetting Maori.
The six months select committee gives him the opportunity to build
distrust and conflict, with those picking up his line transferring
support at the next election from mainly National and NZ First to ACT,
but with the advantage of also telling those already supporters that
ACT will stop at nothing to deliver to supporters, and under cover of
that demonstration, distract from other issues such as fast track
pay-offs to supporters. ACT are indeed dancing with glee at showing
how they are not constrained by common decency, or government
commitments - as with Trump, power is all . . .
So we have a case of the person, MP, not being able to defend/explain his
point of view. In a democracy we can expect to be offended at times by the
ideas that are expressed. However most of us do not shoot the messanger. We
express points which you hope will persuade the other side to your view
point.
Note that once again we also have the case where Left is transferring the
fault onto the other party. (Its not me, it is you).
I believe that the Treaty issues, need to be discussed and a start of
working through them. Other wise they will continue to fester at intervals.
It will be a difficult task, but disrepection the Governing system of the
country will not help in any way.
Finally this attempt to divide that Nation is also a Left desire/plan.
