The Christchurch shooter is believed to have moved to New Zealand
where he could buy firearms that he could not buy in Australia. Now
National are opposing legislation that would correct that:

https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2020/03/03/1066194/extremists-able-to-own-guns-under-national-sop
"The existing measure has been put forward by the Government to deal
with cases like that of the alleged Christchurch gunman, who was able
to legally obtain a firearms licence despite his extreme views. Police
have been widely criticised for granting the man a license without
discovering his extremism.

However, had they found out about these tendencies, the new law would
allow them to refuse his application for a firearms licence. Under
National's SOP, the Christchurch accused would have been able to
obtain a firearms license even if Police had known about his extremist
views, because he had not been convicted under the HRA or HDCA. "

I guess that sews up the violent extremist vote for National . . . . .

That anybody would think that a New Zealand political party wants extremists to
be able to get guns or that any New Zealand political party would seek votes by
doing so indicates a disturbed mind.
You need treatment.

Oh Yeah!

Still as Rich has often pointed out it was National who ran down the mental
health system. So here is the result. Bugger!

Not true actually, even if he did say it, both major parties have been part of
that.

If the law had been followed and if the police had taken the time to check his application, the Aussie nutter wouldn't have been able to break the law and turn one class of firearm into a higher class Rich.

Once again you waffle on about things you know less than nothing about! The biggest failing from the Aussie nutters actions are the new laws that are also not fit for the job and turn honest Kiwi's into criminals! Another cockup from a government renown for it's cock ups!

As usual you lack any comprehension of how the crazy Aussie managed to finish up with a firearm he didn't have a licence for! Why? Because when government rehashed the laws a few years ago people like the current government was involved and like you they lack comprehension or knowledge about firearms! The police failed in the respect they gave him a licence even though those supporting his application didn't meet the requirements in that he hadn't known any of them for the required five years!

The changes to the law were a knee jerk reaction to criminal activity and only punished honest firearms owners and not the local criminal fraternity as all changes have done!
