Do as they say NOT what they do!
The stupidity of it is that at one time selling state houses to tenants was standard practice! The perfect solution to getting people into their own homes!
They have sold some as well where there was no demand and they could
use the money to build more elsewhere - unlike National who just
reducedt he number of houses. Where a house is not needed, it makes
sense to sell - what does not make sense is not to put he money back
into more houses.
National's policy was to sell to any tenant that wanted to buy, which
is indeed stupid.
As the article says: "Its no secret the current Labour Government has
sold some state homes since taking office, with about $30m worth of
stock sold. These homes were sold because they were no longer fit for
purpose and the money raised was spent on further housing."
I suspect a sub-editor put a stupid and unjustified headline to the
article - like you he or she may not have read it properly.
