Everything Twitford touches turns to shit.

Latest - $90million for a commuter train between Auckland and Hamilton.

Only runs twice a day.
Only 300 capacity.
Takes 2h20min *if* everything runs to plan.

So, $300,000 * per commuter, to take 300 cars off the road.

How fucking insane, and how predictable that Phailure Phil would come up with it. Afte rall - his "track" record (thank you) on "Delivery" (remember that?) is sooper dooper!

* Assuming they pack it every day. In reality, nobody will use it as it is too slow and too inflexible.

I understand it comes under the rubric, "Think Big" - y'know, just like Muldoon's and National's "Think Big" all of 40 years ago.

And how did **that** turn out, eh...?

(Hint: yer still payin' furrit..!)

Yep. Muldoon was a big government control freak. Effectively a socialist with a blue tie.

Yep. Muldoon was a big government control freak. Effectively a socialist with a blue tie.
And ignorant with it - just like your other blue-tie socialist, Donald Trump.

Here, from 2007, is an affectionate profile of your avenging socialist, Robert Muldoon, and how he brought worldwide recognition and kudos to New Zealand and both himself and his cabal of like-minded fellow-commies.

As Paul Holmes pointed out at the time of the article, "The world doesn't owe us a living just because Ed Hill climbed a hill" - nor, one might add, because Tolkien wrote a children's story. And this applies no less now than it did in 2007.

Slow learners or what?

Add to that the traveler cost. $30.80 one way Frankton-Auckland CBD
($308.00 per week for 5 return trips) seems a tad expensive for
commuters, and they will spend over 20 hours a week traveling. The
need to change trains at Papakura is a significant disincentive given
that any missed connections will increase the travel times.
