Okay Rich, why the National not?
If you are referring to the National; Party don't expect any coherent
answer - they are seriously conflicted. Simon Bridges supports taking
action to try and limit the disastrous changes facing us, and one of
the National MPs wrote an article supporting quicker action on
emmissions, but the party also relies on climate change deniers (and
yes the anti-foridatin nutters and the anti-MRI nutters, but that's
not really pertinent to the misleading article referred to above.

Its a lack of common sense, and/or a lack of knowledge really. The
reality is that the ice shelf is shrinking - and faster than
scientists previously thought). That means that ice is turning into
very cold water. Naturally very cold water sometimes turns back into
ice (hint, temperatures change daily and seasonally). A ship in the
wrong place at the wrong time can be caught in forming ice; usually
that is a temporary problem, but if it gets caught at the wrong time,
or wih currents causing the ice to coalesce in the wrong places, they
could be stuck for a while, especially if they are notequipped to
break free using power to a special bow or other forces to break the
ice.

Are you surprised that the author did not seek any other explanation
than a previously held opinion?

Those that will occur if we continue to put short term profits ahead
of the impact of climate change.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/119289272/concerns-about-toxic-substance-being-stored-at-mataura
This covers the results of the Tiwai Smelter being able to contract
out of its responsibilities for the safe disposal of toxic waste to a
company that took the money and went broke, leaving toxic waste to
become a danger in the event of flooding. As the article says :"Why
was waste known to become toxic on exposure to water allowed to be
stored on the banks of a river with known flood risk in a building
with known flood risk?"

Yes "light regulation" was the catch-cry - we should be able to rely
on companies to do the right thing without an army of inspectors - but
too oftent hat has resulted in residents picking up the cost of
remediation, or the danger to health and safety of leaving it there.

And why are we getting so many areas with falling values due to the
danger of flooding? That would be Climate Change - unless you have
another scientific explanation, Bill?

Climate Change is a broad subject, Crash - for example the toxic
wastee that was hidden away may well have been OK for a few more
years, but it was exposed by the flooding that is now being strongly
linked to climate change.

The presence of that toxic waste in Mataura is old news unrelated to
climate-change. The recent flooding was caused by heavy rainfall that
may well be part of a weather cycle.

The presence of that toxic waste and the potential risks associated
with it are a political issue that stands on its own.

Of course - both issues can be considered separately, but inevitably
climate change links to a lot of other problems - in this case by
flooding and holding material that meant an additional danger under
those conditions. We are starting to hear of properties that can no
longer be insured - and in that we are behind Australia where it is
over twenty years since insurance companies started loading premiums
in some areas for higher likely claims due to flooding or fire. We
have been lucky regarding tsunamis, but some coastal properties are
starting to have lower sales values due to faster coastal erosion.

Like it or not, life does not always operate in conveniently separated
jam-jars - sometimes issues and events are connected.

No scientific explanation is needed. If this is indeed the case, then
it is due only to a belief in man made climate change, not actual man
made climate change.

The climate alarmists are telling us that man made climate change is
causing the sea level to rise. This is demonstratively false.

Rising sea levels, increased termperatures, more frequent extreme

It is an unexcpected danger from extreme flooding. Yes it also
reflects poor political decisions but the major concern is that
flooding, land subsidence, fires etc can cause damage arising from our
not being prepared for more extreme conditions.

Rich your like the rest of the believers in the new religion of climate change. A useless bloody hypocrite! You and the other chicken littles keep telling us what we need to de to mitigate it's effects but continue to stomp around with carbon footprints like Arderns! Huge with no sign of any let up because you're only preaching about what we need to do while doing absolutely nothing to slow down human emissions!

If you and the other fools actually believed what you preach you'd be walking, ditching you cell phones, computers and all the other accoutrements of our modern society that are reliant on the coal, oil and gas industrys! you bleat about how they're working on replacing what is supplied by the industry except that NOTHING has as yet come out of the research! Hell even your much loved solar and windpower is degenerating into the biggest ecological disaster the world has ever seen!

You Rich and your supposed eco friendly Marxist mates are hypocrites of the first water!

Rich your like the rest of the believers in the new religion of
climate change. A useless bloody hypocrite! You and the other chicken
littles keep telling us what we need to de to mitigate it's effects
but continue to stomp around with carbon footprints like Arderns!
Huge with no sign of any let up because you're only preaching about
what we need to do while doing absolutely nothing to slow down human
emissions!
If you and the other fools actually believed what you preach you'd be
walking, ditching you cell phones, computers and all the other
accoutrements of our modern society that are reliant on the coal, oil
and gas industrys! you bleat about how they're working on replacing
what is supplied by the industry except that NOTHING has as yet come
out of the research! Hell even your much loved solar and windpower is
degenerating into the biggest ecological disaster the world has ever
seen!
You Rich and your supposed eco friendly Marxist mates are hypocrites of the first water!
They are saturating every fake news outlet with 'global warming'
Doesn't matter what the subject is the 'face' will blame the phenomena
on global warming.
And as this crap has been going on since the 60s I doubt very much that
they're going to wake up any time soon

I've just had a look at Kiwiblog and there is very carefully nothing
there recently about global warming or climate change. Farrar knows
that National is on a hiding to nothing with this one - they know that
they are the party that signed New Zealand up to the international
agreements and accepted the targets, but they also know that the votes
of the ignorant and those that put profits before the future will rely
on their pretending htat hte problem doesn;l exist until after the
election. I have posted the following previously - it is indeed ard
for all National MPs to hide their support for action:

"As for reality, see:
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=12301783
and from this:

"Eight scientists from around the world were invited to address the
assembly, including Victoria University’s Professor Tim Naish. He
talked about Antarctica’s ice sheets and how they will contribute to
future sea level rises. He explained that 70 per cent of the world’s
fresh water is locked up in Antarctic ice, and that sea levels have
already risen by 20cm s in response to 1C of global warming.

His message was sobering: If we continue the way we’re going, he
believes sea levels could rise by 1.5m by the end of the 21st century.
If that happens, 800 million people around the world will have their
toes in the water."

and

"A consensus statement signed by all 19 noted with concern “the recent
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on the
Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate, which highlights the
profound effects of climate change on Antarctica’s ecosystems and the
potentially catastrophic effects of Antarctic ice loss on global sea
level”.

Malcolm Turnbull is onto it:

Has JohnO been letting down the side again? He should know as you do

an election year!

Nah, the 60's were the time of "Mutually Assured Destruction",
training for schools on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack,
and the "seconds to midnight"clock - oh wait, that last one is back
again, and closer to midnight than it has ever been . . . .

So go back to sleep George, and don't let anyone know that National
are clear out of ideas how to help even themselves . . .

More evidence that climate change is a political game.

It seems the Danes are worried about this area (also known as Spitsbergen) because it's normally fairly ice free (probably explains why the ships of fools were heading there). However of the last few years that has changed and they're worried it could be sign that the Atlantic conveyor could reverse or just slow down. both events would mean Europe needing more energy to prevent people freezing to death during winters. Plus shorter springs and Summers.

This is far more likely than climate change, (read CO2 increasing in the
atmosphere).

Still like global warming and cooling, it has happened before. Oh yes sea
rise and fall is included in that as well.

I'd like to know who's paying for all the rescue helicopters.

Bill.
