This is a good summary of where things are at present and what is needed.
The supply might be beyond the Governments control along with the other
covid related matters/effects, but the lack of honest communication is
causing confusion, frustration and is going to go a long way to making
a winter of discontent.
The shamble factor is increasing like covid cases have during this pandemic.
Which gets stories flying around on social media.
This will not get better as it is impossible for any politician to admit
they are wrong, or things are not going as planned. Just repeating the its
all ahead of plan is not really of much use.
Neither will Janet Wilson's, nor your, nor any other nz general contributor's easy strictures - justified though they may be - do anything whatever to increase the rate of supply to advance the roll-out.
Undoubtely true, but it does ignore the desirability of honest
journalism and accurate holding of government to account. Thre is a
clear implication that the government has lied, from the first
sentence on, but no evidence given. The article concentrates on the
Covid vaccine roll out. We have had a plan published now for quite a
few weeks showing how many vaccination doses we would have completed,
based on the agreed supply of vaccines. Clearly the plan allowed for
some delay after supply arrives before each shipment is used - it
takes time and staff to administer the injections. The planned
recruitment of people able to make the injections has improved,
leading to us recently being arounf 6 to 8% better than planned
delivery, but that could not last forever; for the first time we have
used previous shipments before the next shipment arrived. No problem
with any of that, except the presentation of this as not being in
accordance with the plan, or the wrong implication that the plan had
changed - instead it was evidence that the plan is being achieved!
Recently there was a fuss about some public servants paying for
articles to be published praising hte work they were doing - that was
rightly criticised, and the government took some flak for not being
aware of it, and then being misled by the department. This article is
not being flagged as an "infomercial", and it is not being put forward
by Stuff as being personal opinion, even though it is by a PR person /
ex journalist who has most recently been in the news as a National
Party insider - she was Press Secretary for Todd Muller.
It is apparently still possible to do at least elementary
fact-checking of letters to the Editor -
it is a poor reflection on Stuff that they allowed this clearly
partisan, biassed and untruthful article to be presented without
acknowledging the reality that it was written by a PR hack with a
known bias and that it is itself misleading and untrue.

All else is, and can only be, the regurgitating of already flogged-to-death unpalatable truths by those who must needs repeatedly consume their own vomit for want of anything more productive to keep them off the streets molesting sweet old biddies and small dogs..
